Study of Aerodynamic forces on a Formula student car: CFD and track data correlation

On this study aerodynamic Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulations are performed and the method to measure aerodynamics forces on track tests is explained under Formula Student framework. It starts contextualizing the Formula Student competition and the role of UPC ecoRacing on it. Then the design and manufacture process of a aeropackage composed by front and rear wing is explained briefly in order to introduce to a series of steady and unsteady aerodynamic simulations. Following this, a method to measure aerodynamic force on track tests is studied and determined. A first track test planning is exposed to calculated the real downforce. Finally, it is concluded that the method chosen is suitable and satisfactory as a first approach on aerodynamic data registration as well as applicable at others dynamics uses.
