Abstract
Over the last decades, we have witnessed a profound change in
understanding the dynamics of competitive advantage in a global world. Directors
now declare that a firm’s success is tied, in part, to the strength of supply chain
operations strategy. However, many questions remain unanswered about how
best to characterize the supply chain network. Recently, organizations pay
attention to locating their factories, designing the transportation networks and, at
the end, create customer value. This attention is largely a result of the rising
costs of manufacturing, shortened product life cycles, the leveling of the playing
field distribution, and the globalization of market economies. This thesis presents
an overview and evaluation of the performance measures used in supply chain
models and proposes future solutions of improvement for a printing manufacturer.
There were consistent evidence that actual scenarios were incomplete designed
and costs rose above expected. By examining the different practices and
processes of the supply chain activities and cost, the thesis concludes that those
proposals will source a considerable decrease of supply chain costs.
