Abstract
A bass-reflex port is an open pipe that connect the volume of the loudspeaker with the surrounding environment. Its role is to accentuate the low frequency range of sound. For some geometries a vortex shedding can be generated, which causes aerodynamic noise that can interference with the loudspeaker sound. The student will perform a numerical simulation, with an open source CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamic) package, of the flow in the bass-reflex port, in order to reproduce the vortex shedding. The main tasks will be:- Theoretical study of the vortex shedding in a pipe- Choose the best solver for the flow simulation and learn how to use it- Generation of geometry and mesh- Simulation running- Mesh convergence study- Results analisis
Description
The main objective is to numerically find and measure the vortex generated in the bass-reflex port of a loudspeaker. A secondary flow will be to perform a signal analysis of the measurement in order to characterize the aerodynamic sound generated
