Abstract
A bass-reflex port is an open pipe that connect the volume of the loudspeaker with the surrounding environment. Its role is to accentuate the low frequency range of sound. For some geometries a vortex shedding can be generated, which causes aerodynamic noise that can interference with the loudspeaker sound. The student will perform a experimental study of the flow in the bass-reflex port, in order to reproduce the vortex shedding. The main tasks will be: Study of the different available geometries of loudspeaker. Theoretical study of the vortex shedding in a pipe. Choose the best experimental method for the flow visualization and learn how to use it. Design and construction of the test bench. Experimental running. Results analysis
Description
The main objective is to experimental find and measure the vortex generated in the bass-reflex port of a loudspeaker. A secondary objective will be to perform a signal analysis of the measurement in order to characterize the aerodynamic sound generated.
