Soft-tissue-mimicking using hydrogels for the development of phantoms
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2022-01-06)
Article
Open AccessWith the currently available materials and technologies it is difficult to mimic the mechanical properties of soft living tissues. Additionally, another significant problem is the lack of information about the mechanical ... -
Comparison of proximal remote sensing devices of vegetable crops to determine the role of grafting in plant resistance to Meloidogyne incognita
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2022-04-30)
Article
Open AccessProximal remote sensing devices are novel tools that enable the study of plant health status through the measurement of specific characteristics, including the color or spectrum of light reflected or transmitted by the ... -
Development of microscopic techniques for the visualization of plant–root-knot nematode interaction
(2022-04-26)
Article
Open AccessPlant-parasitic nematodes are a significant cause of yield losses and food security issues. Specifically, nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne can cause significant production losses in horticultural crops around the world. ... -
Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Willingness to Consume Insect-Based Food Products in Catalonia
(2021-04-08)
Article
Open AccessEdible insects are being considered as a sustainable source of protein and are continuously appearing in markets in the West. The impact of COVID-19 on the willingness to consume (WTC) two products enriched with insect ... -

An inline optic sensor technology to determine milk pH in yogurt manufacturing
(2021)
Conference lecture
Open AccessAccurate determination of yogurt fermentation end-point (i.e., the end of the fermentation process at pH = 4.6) is essential for yogurt manufacturing. As a result of the high complexity of milk fermentation induced by ... -
Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on willingness to consume insect-based food products in Catalonia
(2021)
Conference lecture
Restricted access to the UPC academic communityFood and drinks enriched with insect ingredients have started appearing on the European market since 2014 and have significantly increased since 2018. According to the Global New Products Database (GNPD) of Mintel©, the ... -
Diet and exercise modulate gh-igfs axis, proteolytic markers and myogenic regulatory factors in juveniles of gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata)
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2021-08-01)
Article
Open AccessThe effects of exercise and diet on growth markers were analyzed in gilthead sea bream juveniles. Under voluntary swimming, fish fed with a high-lipid diet showed lower growth, growth hormone (GH) plasma levels, flesh ... -

Characterization of food additive-potato starch complexes by FTIR and X-ray diffraction
(2018-09-15)
Article
Open AccessFourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques were used to study the effect of four food additives, agar, alginate, lecithin and glycerol, at three different concentrations, 0.5, 1 ... -
Microbiomes associated with infective stages of root-knot and lesion nematodes in soil
(Public Library of Science (PLOS), 2017-05-01)
Article
Open AccessEndoparasitic root-knot (Meloidogyne spp.) and lesion (Pratylenchus spp.) nematodes cause considerable damage in agriculture. Before they invade roots to complete their life cycle, soil microbes can attach to their cuticle ... -
