Abstract
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has grown over the years thanks tothe constant increase of computing power. The development of fluid dynamicmodels during this decades has allowed the establishment of well knownmethodologies for calculating the movement and temperature of a fluid inmultiple cases. With this foundations of classical CFD, one of the challenges is to addmore physical phenomena to the models, like multi-phase flows, combustion,fluid-structure interaction or Conjugate Heat Transfer (CHT).In this work, a method is proposed to solve the physical phenomena ofConjugate Heat Transfer in static and moving solid objects immersed in afluid. The proposed methodology relies on the Immersed Boundary Method(IBM), a method of solving the momentum and energy equations in CFDproblems without the need of a body-conformal mesh. This methodologyprovides a high degree of flexibility in terms of describing complex geometriesand moving bodies. In general, CHT in IBM use the fluid mesh to calculate both the fluidand the solid, however this approach generates numerical diffusivity in caseswhere the solid is in movement, so a methodology is proposed where twomeshes are used, one for the fluid and one for the solid. The challenge is todescribe how this meshes exchange boundary condition. This work is addedto the already existing IBM libraries in the code TermoFluids. The results of this work are validated with analytical and reference caseswith quite accurate results. Finally a practical case is studied to show the applications of the devel-oped methodology in a realistic case.
