Abstract
Digital transformation has gradually become a major concern for most companies. Some have taken the plunge, others not yet. Some will experience this digital transformation with a focus on improving the customer experience, while others will focus on digitizing processes and introducing new technologies. There is no single approach to digital transformation, but one thing is certain: it is necessary for the sustainability of a company. Limited by traditional data management methods, companies are considering deploying other procedures that would allow data to be collected in real time, in order to monitor parameters and performance indicators. This master’s final work is part of this context. Indeed, the objective of this study is to understand how data related to machine performance and material flow monitoring are collected and reported from the production line, in order to propose a data acquisition methodology that would allow us to capture and monitor the information in real time. This study is carried out on Tangier’s packaging line, as a reference for processed cheese manufacturing. The technical report of the project is organized as follows. Section 1 is dedicated to defining the origin of the project, the project scope, as well as the objectives established, and the roadmap we decided to follow to reach them. In the context of the project, theoretical concepts are explained in part 2. It includes official definitions of performance indicators as well as concepts related to real-time performance monitoring and digital tools. Parts 3 is dedicated to the definition of the requirements. It provides a study of the current data management methodology. This allows us to have a critical mind on the existing situation, to understand the limits and main challenges to be overcome in terms of data collection and to define the need. The analysis of the relevent data to be collected as well as potential data sources is carried out in section 4. Section 5 presents the different alternatives and solutions we propose in order to improve the monitoring of machine performance and material flows on the packaging line. As a conclusion for this part of the study, there is an analysis of the proposals made, and a presentation of the data acquisition methodology to be adopted. It also includes a proposal of a digital tool capable of insuring the functionalities required by the data management methodology proposed. This is how the need for the implementation of a manufacturing execution system is justified. The environmental impact of the project is presented in section 6. Finally, an estimated cost study of the project has been conducted and presented in part 7. The data collection system proposed in this study would allow the company BEL to monitor in real time the parameters that define its industrial performance, to achieve considerable savings in terms of data monitoring, traceability, quality management and industrial performance. This methodology, supported by an adapted and efficient digital tool, would relieve operators of the physical efforts and manual non-added value operations they perform, allowing them to supervise their workstation and monitor their performance in real time.
