Abstract
[ANGLÈS] The objective of this project is to do a study of the effects caused by the addition of different alloy elements on an AlSi9Cu3 alloy as base. The addition elements are Zn, Cr, Mg, Zr and TiB added in very small quantities (micro-alloying). The alloy with best results from a previous study has been repeated in order to make sure that those results were correct. The process followed has been casting the base aluminium and the aluminium with the alloys. Afterwards a hardness, metallograph and tensile tests has been applied. To some of these samples a heat treatment T6 has been applied previously. This treatment consists of rising the temperature to the solution temperature of 520 ºC followed by a quench with water, and then an artificial aging at 170 ºC for 12 hours. The hardness tests have given the result that the hardness peak is obtained with the alloyed sample and the T6 applied. The same happens with the microstructure analysis. The best results are with the alloyed sample and the T6 applied. In the case of the tensile test two different moulds were used because in the first test all the samples broke systematically in the same spot. With the second mould this problem was solved and good results for the base aluminium samples were achieved. On the other hand, the results with the alloyed samples were unsatisfying, they presented a big fragility and in some cases some rust appeared in the inside of them, making the results not valid and making it impossible to compare them with the ones from the base material.
