dc.description.abstractCompanies that use prepared billets for thixocasting need to buy the billet depending on an external supplier or develop their own billets with expensive processes. In this investigation a prototype that measures the viscosity while obtaining a globular matrix of aluminium alloy has been developed. Controlling the viscosity of the alloy, ingots up to 1,00 kg mass can be prepared for the thixocasting process. During the initial solidification process, external forces are introduced with a rotating bar. This agitation turns the initial dendritic microstructure to rosette microstructure. Those ingots can be used in 3D printing by extruding and heating them. The machine has been tested with A356 alloy and can be adapted to any other light alloy.
