Estudio del potencial energético de las energías renovables y su impacto en el archipélago de las Perlas (Panamá). Primeras Aproximaciones

Abstract

The current situation of the inhabitants of the Las Perlas archipélago highlights the lack of energy resources in this area. The study of the energetic potential of renewable energies and their environmental impacts in the Las Perlas archipiélago is one of the main objectives of the cooperation and development project entitled “Training in sustainable navigation and evaluation of the energetic uses and environmental sustainability in the rural area of the Saboga Island (Panamá)”. The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and the Universidad Marítima Interancional de Panamá (UMIP) will cooperate in this project thanks to the fund made in the frame of the XXVI Call for Funding for Cooperation Actions of the Center for Development Cooperation (CCD) of the UPC. This paper presents the first results of this study, identifying the required parameters for the evaluation of the renewable energies sources and poses the alternative energy sources for a future application that will improve the current conditions giving answers to social demands in the Saboga Island.
