Abstract
This project aims to develop a virtual reality application, taking advantage of the immersion and the
increase in sensory experience offered by this technology, in order to replace the current treatment
methods for patients with advanced age, who suffer some kind of mild degenerative disease at
cognitive level. To achieve this, the company specialized in virtual reality, "Visyon360", has provided
me with the necessary technology. In addition, a collaboration with the “Hospital Clínic” of Barcelona
has been established, thanks to which, the application may be carried to a real practice in the future
The project is the continuation of several previous projects in which it develops, through the "Unity"
game engine, a virtual reality application set in a supermarket. This application contains different
game modes with the aim of obtaining different data and to try to offer the most suitable experience
for each patient. The main objective of this project was to try to improve the existing application by
including a new game mode that requires mental calculation and, thanks to it, increase the
possibilities of studying the evolution of each patient. All this, taking into account the basic objective
of obtaining an application that slows down the mental degeneration suffered by patients, thus
improving their quality of life, while having fun.
Throughout the memory of this project are described the different tools that have been used for the
conformation of the application, as well as the methodology that has been used for the design and
development of it. Also, it is explained the operation and the programming of the different elements
that make up each game mode of the application. In addition, the different improvements
introduced are also presented, by consequence or not of the test performed, to obtain a uniform
application, as realistic and intuitive as possible.
Finally, it has been concluded that the application is already ready to be carried out with real
patients. Also, emphasis has been placed on the future lines that the application should follow to
continue improving and, even, to be exported to different formats such as mobile platform.
