Abstract
The project presented below aims to show the design process of the FTTH network. In this case we will see the design of a cluster located in Esparraguera, Barcelona. During these years of technological growth, users have demanded service improvements, which has led to a deployment of fiber optics to leave ADSL behind. The biggest operators such as Telefónica, Orange, Jazztel, Vodafone and MásMóvil have been improving their old copper networks by installing fibre for many years. The advance in quality of connection for the final user has been exponentially great in recent times, not only by cable, but also in frequency, as we are seeing with the 3G, 4G and 5G. Although in the fiber sector there is much less work than years ago, FTTH networks are still being deployed in areas where the technology has not yet reached for reasons such as isolation in mountains, lack of infrastructure or project unfeasibility. The network that will be designed at the end of the project is a passive network, with point-to-multipoint connections and uses WDM multiplexing to be able to transmit on the same fibre several broadband services. Before reaching the final objective, which is to see the network design, we talk about the FTTX family of technologies, focusing on FTTH and going deeper into the operation of the technology. The criteria used when designing will also be presented. Finally, the design criteria are put into practice and we see the proposed design, accompanied by the plans, interior designs and budget. Finally, the general conclusions are presented.
