Study and development of a damage subroutine for progressive failure analysis of composite materials

Composite materials are increasingly used nowadays in the most advanced sectors of technology. So, it is important that designers have a powerful tool to simulate composite structures. Available simulation tools in commercial software are limited. In this project the capabilities for the analysis of composites in the ABAQUS Software are extended, by developing a material subroutine for composite damage. An UMAT subroutine is developed for predicting damage initiation and progression in composite materials with one of the most advanced material models that exist. The model is implemented and then verifed by comparison with different experiments available in the literature. Results show an increment of accuracy with respect to the available model in ABAQUS. This implies that with this subroutine better results can be achieved with the same effort.
