Abstract
The purpose of this final degree project is to create a device able to simultaneously release and detect
dopamine (neurotransmitter) in a controlled form. For the manufacturing of this device, two polymeric
materials, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) PEDOT and poly-γ-glutamic acid (PGGA) will be used to
make different physicochemical properties to the apparatus.
The assembly of this device will consist of coating a carbon-screen serigraphic electrode (ESC) with an
electrochemical film formed by PEDOT nanoparticles obtained electrochemically. A hydrogel will be
assembled to this electrode, in order to ensure the incorporation of the dopamine and the subsequent
release of it. This hydrogel will consist on a combination of PGGA and cistamine (AED) as an
interweaving agent.
The characteristics and properties of the hydrogel will be analyzed by taking different samples in the
form of small pellets and using techniques such as Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR),
digital microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), among others. Swelling of these hydrogel
samples will also be measured by introducing them in different acidic and basic media to see the
differences in their performance and the maximum buffer they have been able to absorb.
Finally, the synthesis conditions will be adjusted in order to optimize the release and detection of the
dopamine in the sensors.
