Technological advances in virtual reality devices in recent years have led to a significant improvement in capture and transmission of movements from real world to virtual world. With today's devices, actions such as walking and moving physically by the virtual reality environment are possible without need of great equipment or a specialized laboratory. Parallel to these advances, the use of virtual reality is increasing and it's used collaboratively: multiple users using the same virtual environment simultaneously interacting with each other. Joining these two factors, it has been observed that users do not have the same behavior in virtual reality that they would have in the real world. Studies already made show that the level of detail of the virtual representation of the user (avatar) affects their behavior in virtual reality. Starting from these studies, this project aims to prove the hypothesis that using avatars with a level of realism very elevated has a positive impact on human behavior in virtual environments, causing that behavior to be more similar to the one they have outside of virtual reality. To achieve the highest level of realism possible, this project applies inverse kinematics to the user's avatar to be able to imitate perfectly the user's movements. To test the hypothesis formulated, this project designs an experiment to perform using avatars with different levels of realism. This experiment will study human behavior in collaborative virtual reality, focusing on how humans move along the virtual environment avoiding colliding with each other.
