Abstract
[ANGLÈS] The present document reflects the simulation process achieved through Siemens NX software of an energy harvester mechanism, which transforms seawater energy into electric energy, placed within a Drifter.
Firstly, the results of an experimental controlled test in open sea obtained by SARTI research group are shown. Provided data were analysed using Fourier Series theory to obtain analytic functions capable of represent its distribution.
Afterwards, the main simulation scenario was stated considering the experimental prototype, which consists of a mechanism with a pendular arm and a flying wheel. The different parts of the apparatus were modelled using NX. Also, links, joints, gears and friction values were defined, and the analytic functions necessary to recreate the movement were introduced. Graphically, the results obtained were truly successful. Numerically, it was proven that the angular velocity of the simulation on the engine shaft has an error around 10% in regard of the angular velocity on the engine shaft obtained experimentally.
Subsequently, multiple changes were posed with the objective of increasing the angular velocity on the engine shaft. These changes directly affect the flying wheel, the main structure of the mechanism and the pendular arm. Moreover, bending case was studied on the central and tubular shaft, where the engine wires are meant to pass through. Analytic results were supported by Finite Element Method (FEM). FEM results prove that both shafts will be capable to endure the different loads that will appear.
Finally, a second scenario of simulation was carried out with the new prototype with the objective of proving that the changes affect positively on the behaviour of the mechanism. It was demonstrated that these changes increase the angular velocity of the engine shaft in an order of 59% at the same conditions. Apart, these changes reduce the requests that would appear on the main structure of the mechanism, increasing its useful life.
