dc.description.abstractThis study has been carried out thanks to the collaboration and support of the Consell Assessor for the Sustainable Development and the Escola Superior d'Agricultura de Barcelona (UPC). The objective is to make a first estimation of the reactive nitrogen contribution on the pig sector in Catalonia during the period 2004-2008. In the reactive nitrogen balance performed, are considered as inputs of the system the animal feed and the meat import; and as outputs the pork consumed in households, the slurry generated and the meat export. This data has been extracted from the Departament d’Agricultura, Ramaderia, Pesca i Alimentació of the Generalitat de Catalunya and DataComex of the Ministerio de Industria, Comercio y Turismo. Reactive nitrogen has been estimated for each of these variables. In general, the results obtained show that in the inputs and in the outputs there is an annual increase in reactive nitrogen. However, the difference between these two values indicates a decrease of the reactive nitrogen that remains in Catalonia.
