Abstract
Nowadays, either tomato or lettuce cultivations have great importance because of their growing demand. For this reason, it is very important to find some methods which allow obtaining high yields without causing damage to the environment. This paper is based on the research of growing tomato and lettuce and incorporating some possible improvements to the programs of Integrated Pest Control carried out in Catalonia. Each crop receives two different treatments, EUCLID and Conventional. Concerning the EUCLID treatment in tomato's cultivation, the efficacy of the mirid Dicyphus errans for the control of pests is tested, paying special attention to the pest of the tomato's moth. The cultivation of lettuce demonstrates the efficacy of the flower margins of Lobularia maritima to attract hoverflies and other fauna. It also demonstrates the efficacy of the use of the compost-V of the company Agry New Tech (ANT) to reduce the incidence of diseases. Conventional treatment is carried out in the same way that a farmer would do in Catalonia with the support of the consultant in integrated pest control. The results show that the mirid Dicyphus errans are not suitable for pest control in Maresme. However, their introduction in a nursery is a good system to obtain a homogeneous population throughout the greenhouse at the beginning of the crop. The margins of Lobularia maritima and compost-V are suitable for managing lettuce cultivation, but they do not show great differences with the use of pesticides and fungicides.
