dc.description.abstractVirtual reality is an environment in which fantastical or realistic scenes take place and can be experienced through a virtual reality headset. This technology can be applied to several fields such as medicine, physical training, education, tourism, museography or leisure. In this project, this technology is applied to medicine, in particular, to the rehabilitation of patients with reduced mobility. This implies that the professionals who manage rehabilitation programs will be able to collect quantitative data from patients. Moreover, exercises using this technology tend to be more entertaining for them and reduce the repetitiveness feeling. This is an added value to motivate them to finish their corresponding rehabilitation programs. This application requires the use of Kinect Sensor and HTC Vive. Through an avatar imported into Unity game engine and Kinect Sensor device, patients’ movements are represented and patients have to follow professional indications for a correct rehabilitation. By means of HTC Vive, they will see the avatar as if it were their own body. Virtual reality applied to rehabilitation of patients is a potential topic that opens up a wide range of resources to be used by medical professionals.
