Analysis of the human pinch move: experimental and numerical approach

This MSc project investigates the muscle and tendon simulation of the pinch move. It is focus on the flexors and extensors of the index finger. The gathering of data is carried out by a dataglove and the simulation is done in OpenSim. The results are analysed in Microsoft Excel and MATLAB. Plotting the moment arm of the index finger and its evolution depending the flexion of the joint, is found that the results follow a cosine shape. The moments arm of all the muscles in the index finger tends to zero as the flexion is increasing because the approximation of the tendon to the joint. It is state that one resting position exists for the index finger but in this project is found another one. The findings support that depending on the pair of agonist and antagonist muscles that are considered, another resting position appears.
