dc.description.abstract | In recent years, improvements in virtual reality devices have greatly expanded other fields that are related to this technology. One of the current concerns is the improvement of the sense of immersion within a virtual environment. Immersion can be enhanced by capturing the user's movements and reproducing them in a humanoid model. The main goal of this project is to increase the level of realism when it comes to representing a humanoid model and its movements within a virtual reality environment, using a low-cost system accessible to many users. In order to achieve this goal, several inverse kinematics implementations, in charge of reproducing the user's movement, have been studied and compared. These implementations have been compared with a program previously developed by the ViRVIG research group, which uses UnityIK. The selected implementations for this study, have been FinalIK and IKinema Orion. The program developed by ViRVIG program has been adapted to allow the proper functioning of FinalIK. Afterward, the implementations have been compared through a comparative table of their characteristics, a quantitative test and a qualitative test prototype. As a result of these comparisons, it has been observed that FinalIK has improvements with respect to UnityIK, such as an automatic scaling system, the possibility of controlling a greater number of devices for tracking the position and orientation, or the procedural generation of animations to represent the feet movement. IKinema Orion also supports a greater number of devices than UnityIK. During the realization of the quantitative tests, it has been observed how most postures of the model calculated by UnityIK, as the posture of the arms or the legs being stand-up, are more accurate than those from FinalIK. However, when the user squats, FinalIK represents better these movements. Finally, in the qualitative tests, it has been observed that UnityIK offers a better solution than FinalIK. Future studies will focus on expanding qualitative tests, reducing device noise and testing other motion capture systems. |
