dc.description.abstractThe paper describes the application of the Material Point Method to the simulation of an earthdam failure case and the evaluation of the seismic response of concrete-faced dams. Results for the historical failure case of Aznalcóllar dam and for two dams located in the western part of Argentina that are under high seismic hazard are presented. The ability of the method to correctly simulate failure mechanisms is shown.
