Abstract
A specific preamble for the tasks of signal detection and synchronization in burst digital communications is presented. The preamble resembles a chirp signal used in RADAR applications. Its main benefit is that it allows the application of the Generalized Likelihood Ratio Test in an efficient manner, as well as the derivation of closed-form estimators for the synchronization parameters, as shown in the paper. The proposal can be an alternative to turbo-synchronization in very low Eb/N0 scenarios.
