Abstract
This project presents the complete preliminary design of a four meters foiling motorboat intended for recreational water sports. The design process has been carried in conjunction with a technical marine engineering office. Therefore, to improve the design group effectiveness, special focus has been placed on fields that purely technical marine engineers typically overlook. These include areas such as market study and potential users surveying, ergonomics, aesthetics, branding, environmental impact, 3D modelling and rendering and other industrial design areas. Of special interest have been the areas where the technical and the functional aspects meet such as the preliminary definition of the internal structure components which have a strong impact on the usability and ergonomics of the vessel’s cockpit. On the other hand, support has also been provided on the technical side by carrying a study of materials, potential building processes, preliminary structure calculations as well as a final set of drawings.
