Abstract
This project has been developed at Thermo King –Ingersoll Rand. It consists in the implementation of a refrigeration system steady-state simulator named UP2 for truck refrigeration units with the objective of analyzing if this tool is reliable and can decrease the number of tests in the lab. A UP2 model consists on two parts. The first is the calibration of the model based on the test data. The second is the implementation of the model to analyze the performance of the variables under different conditions. The first part of the project focuses on the refrigeration fundamentals and presents the components that form the refrigeration system. A brief description of the coil design and algorithms is presented. It explains the parameters involved in the designing of the coils, the mathematical models from which the models are built and the steps followed to solve the systems. Next the UP2 simulation tool is presented with an explanation on the steps that should be followed to calibrate a model. The application of the tool consists on different UP2 models which are created based on TK units. An analysis of the performance is developed changing different parameters of the system. Last is presented an analysis with the duty cycle performance tool, a simulation tool for dynamic systems and an energy consumption comparison is effected with UP2.
