Reinforcement systems based on basalt and steel grids embedded into an inorganic matrix of hydraulic lime are widely used for strengthening and repair of masonry structures. The common advantages are the easy application, the very good mechanical performance, and the high durability. The seismic retrofit of existing masonry structures is increasingly adopting these types of solutions and more research effort is currently required to assess carefully their behaviour.
