dc.description.abstract | There are two main aims of this project, firstly is to design and engineer a simple, compact, and predefined ‘off the shelf’ solution for a coolant fluid filling machine. The second aim is to analyse potential emerging markets for the sale of this product, define a price level, and create a marketing strategy plan. An accumulation of these aspects results in the end product meeting the market requirements with the developed technical solution. Initially understand the existing machine and flow diagrams, is essential in the development of the final solution. Then utilising the understanding gained to create new flow diagrams and functions, while designing the smaller machine. Research is conducted into different competitors to aid with the development of the new product and also the market analysis. Emerging markets are analysed and an insight into profitability and distribution management is conducted. From these combined features a price is devised in conjunction with the company’s requirements. From this research, India and China are seen as the most profitable and diversified markets for this product. The engineering section of this project began by first analysing the flow diagram, of SAT´s existing product. It enabled the team to first understand how the filling process is currently conducted and then to divide the process into sub-processes. Analysing the latter in detail enabled the team to distinguish functions, which the new machine should perform. Firstly, the coolant mixture must be prepared. The team analysed 3 different solutions. Such as using a premixed mixture, by mixing water and glycol inside a tank and utilising the jet mixing method. Then, the adapter must be tightly clamped in the inlet of the reservoir. A simple hydraulic system consisting of a gear pump and a rubber collar was designed to meet requirements for that function. Next, using compressed air and a vacuum pump successively, the Ready machine performs checks on the whole car cooling system. After that, the mixture can be introduced to the car. Hydrophobic coating is used to prevent any liquid from contaminating the working space. Knowing all functions of the machine and having found a solution for each of them, 3 different ideas are developed and 3 flow diagrams are prepared. Then, analysing them and performing value analysis, the final solution is chosen and a 3D model is prepared. |
