Abstract
Tunnel excavation may affect the nearby buildings. An estimation of the settlement and damage suffered by buildings supported by shallow foundations due to tunnel excavation can be derived from published work. However, piled foundations, found often in soft to medium ground conditions, pose a more challenging analysis. Semi-analytical solutions are useful in these cases because of the possibility of solving the tunnel-foundation interaction at a reduced calculation effort.
