Abstract
In this thesis, we demonstrate the correct operation of a fluorescence sensor designed for the analysis of water samples, in concrete phytoplankton levels and microorganism counting. The system, based on different techniques of flow cytometry and fluorometry, makes use of a laser source as well as an objective microscope focused on a capillary, without need for a cuvette, to interact with the sample. Measurements on cell counting and phytoplankton photochemical efficiency were achieved for different sized cells. An overview of the different modules of the system is given as well as the final results obtained.
