The project deals with the consequences of an aircraft being stopped due to maintenance issues or being taken out of service due to failures, blows, limitations or other problems based on the author's experience working in the maintenance department of Vueling Airlines. The consequences derived from this study may not be applicable to airlines with different systems and processes. The main topic of this paper focuses on the management of aircraft that are out of service (an AOG, aircraft on ground), the different types of AOGs that can be found depending on the consequences for which they are out of service. In addition the possible solutions we have and the duration of these will be discussed. There are different problems depending on the bases or airports in which the aircraft is (since in all airports there is not the same maintenance service) that leads to the procedures by which the aircraft are declared in AOG are different. We will also explain how to send the material and the search that has to be done, to know which piece is the one to send. It will explain the impact suffered by the passage or the operation of the airline with the possible consequences that this entails. We can have from a possible change of plane to a cancellation. Therefore, we will explain the problems that there are when you do not have airplanes to be able to do the flights assigned to the airplane that is now in AOG. To make us more aware of the problem of having planes out of service, we will describe examples that will allow us to make visible how they evolve until the plane is ready to fly. And in order to see the importance of these, there is an analysis of all the planes that were in AOG in August 2018. Finally we will talk about the possible improvements that could be made in the area of maintenance, in order to improve AOG times and the entire maintenance system.
