Abstract
The current project is elaborated with the target of obtain a mechanical solution for the possible problems could be appearing in a SEGWAY device when adapted for being ridden in a sitting position.
This said analysis, focused in a sitting position, has the aim of being developed for handicapped people, those who have lost the mobility of their legs.
This two-wheel vehicle is composed by a platform, moved forward and backward through two motors.
The SEGWAY is also able to know quite accurately, the position of the rider and its own velocity due to the several sensors comprised. The device uses its own acceleration/speed in order to keep the user in equilibrium, following the law of the Inverted Pendulum.
The mass centre of the user is the variable allowing the user to control advancement of the vehicle. At this point, is when enters the issue to develop: this parameter will be of course changing in the riding of a handicapped person; it will not be the same as has been in a standing user.
Furthermore, there is a company called Gennymobility having this kind of vehicle already in the market. Thus, this project will also analyse this product and develop some improvements talking about stability, materials and costs issues.
