R2EM - Resource Recovery and Environmental Management
R2EM group is developing research activity on development of sustainable urban and industrial waste management cycles based on resource recovery approaches promoting circular solutions of waste to product and waste to energy. Research also involves efforts on developing environmental remediation solutions for soils and ground water remediation, process and environmental monitoring and environmental risk assessment on ports.

Acid recovery from copper metallurgical process streams polluted with arsenic by diffusion dialysis
(Elsevier, 2021-02-01)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyA copper smelter generates solutions containing H2SO4 (220 ± 10 g/L), non-metals (3.4 ± 0.2 g/L As) and metals (0.5 ± 0.1 g/L Zn, 0.13 ± 0.01 g/L Fe and 0.11 ± 0.01 g/L Cd) that are treated with lime as disposal option. ... -
Contribution of phases segregated from the UO2 matrix to the release of radionuclides from spent nuclear fuel and duration of the Instant Release Fraction (IRF)
(Elsevier, 2020-04-15)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyDuring the dissolution of the spent nuclear fuel (SNF) some radionuclides are released to the solution simultaneously from different sources in the fuel. This is of particular importance to some radionuclides that contribute ... -
Kinetics of scandium recovery by TVEX-TBP from the solution formed after the salt chlorinator cake leaching
(EDP Sciences, 2020)
Article
Open AccessKinetics of scandium recovery by TVEX containing tributyl phosphate was studied from the clarified leaching solution of salt chlorinator cake. To assess the contribution of each diffusion phase, experimental data were ... -
From nanofiltration membrane permeances to design projections for the remediation and valorisation of acid mine waters
(Elsevier, 2020-10-10)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyAcidic Mine Waters (AMWs) are characterised by high acidity (pH¿<¿3) as H2SO4 and elevated contents of metals (Al, Fe, Cu, Zn), including rare earth elements (REEs). Due to the exhaustion of minable REE containing-minerals, ... -
Extraction, separation and characterization of lipopeptides and phospholipids from corn steep water
(2020-10-01)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyThis is the first work about the fractionation, separation and identification of different bioactive compounds contained in a multifunctional biosurfactant extract, obtained from corn steep water through a liquid–liquid ... -
Olive mill and winery wastes as viable sources of bioactive compounds: a study on polyphenols recovery
(2020-11-01)
Article
Open AccessIn this study, the recovery of polyphenols from olive oil mill and winery waste was investigated. The performance of ultrasound assisted extraction (UAE), microwave assisted extraction (MAE), and pressurized liquid extraction ... -
Phosphate recovery from aqueous solution by K-zeolite synthesized from fly ash for subsequent valorisation as slow release fertilizer
(Elsevier, 2020-08-20)
Article
Restricted access - publisher's policyThe sorption of phosphate by K-zeolites synthesized from fly ash (FA) by hydrothermal conversion is investigated in this study. The aim is the synthesis of Ca bearing K-zeolites to recover phosphate from urban and industrial ... -
Hollow fiber membrane-based analytical techniques recent advances
(CRC Press, 2020-11-24)
Part of book or chapter of book
Restricted access - publisher's policyProblems of chemical analysis almost always involve two steps; separation of the desired constituent and measurement of the amount or concentration of this constituent. Under the scope of these two steps, sample preparation, ... -
Hollow fiber membrane contactors. Introduction and perspectives
(CRC Press, 2020-11-24)
Part of book or chapter of book
Restricted access - publisher's policyOver the last two decades, hollow fiber contactor-based technology has grown into an accepted unit operation for a wide variety of separations. The increase in the use of this technology, owing to strict environmental ... -
Process intensification in integrated use of hollow fiber contactor-based processes case studies of sparkling water production and membrane contactor- based strip dispersion process
(CRC Press, 2020-11-24)
Part of book or chapter of book
Restricted access - publisher's policyProcess intensification (PI) may be achieved by new modes of production, which are based on scientific principles. New operating modes have been studied in the laboratory and/or at pilot stages: hollow fiber contactor ... -
