Abstract
Nowadays, around 25 million people are forced to move away from their homes due to the war. A great part of they try to find new fortune by crossing the Mediterranean Sea. Unfortunately, the number of refugees dying in the water because they cannot be found on time is increasing day by day. The principal aim of this document is to develop a new tool to help the organisation Pro Activa Open Arms using the drone technology. The main problem is that, when using the radar system, they sometimes get erroneous target points because of the waves. The dron is going to flight in order to obtain thermic images, process them and identify if there is something there or not. This way, the crew will be able to confirm the target seen with the radar. Moreover, the distance to it will also be computed. As the members of the organisation have asked for, the dron will be able to record images from the surroundings with a visual camera. A technical study has been made to prove the capacities of the system and an it has been planned an operational method to achieve the objectives. For the operative, there two differentiate parts. From one side there is the adaptation of the platform dron to the scenario and from the other the software that will do the image processing. For the latter, a previous calibration of the camera needs to be done. Once the practical validation has taken part, we are able to confirm that the methodology proposed in this project will improve the research tools that are now used for the organisation. With a future perspective, and with the help of some specialists, it can be a tool really useful for maritime research and rescue.
