Abstract
This project deals with the inclusion of energy storage systems in a wind park for the provision of ancillary services and the promotion of renewables' grid integration. The project proposes the association of an energy storage system based on batteries and flywheels in the park. Flywheels are operated so as to smooth out fast fluctuations in the power generated by wind turbines, thus improving the power quality of the wind park. Batteries, in turn, are operated so they can maintain the required power reserves to let the wind park to participate in the grid ancillary service of primary frequency control. The project covers different aspects around this idea, including from the revision of newest grid codes in Europe regarding this matter, to the modeling and simulation of an energy management system for the wind park, so energy storages are operated conveniently.
