Over the past years, the use of electric batteries has been so normalized that it has not stopped growing due to the improvement of our daily lifestyle such like facilitating the mobility of those electronic elements that are used every day, which are watches, computers, mobile phones, and other ones. Beyond the facilities provided by the use of batteries, we are already implementing them in vehicles (cars and aircrafts) in order to minimize the consumption of fossil fuels. Despite the large number of batteries present in our lives, this field has not been studied very much. This project consists of a 2D thermoelectric model of a metal-hydride battery. The aging of the battery is analyzed by using Fick's diffusion laws and numerical finite element techniques in Matlab® software tool. From the simulated results, the size of the metal-hydride particles, the current, the capacity of the battery, the heat and the generated entropy are analyzed. This analysis leads to the conclusion that the study of the entropy plus the discharge time is a good method to know the aging of the battery through the cycles of use.
