Abstract
The following report is based on the project made by EPS students of group 7 in the autumn 2011. The faced decisions and problems are derived from the Mini-RUF project. The Mini RUF is a concept vehicle of new public transportation. In the first part of the report we will share more information about the Mini-RUF concept vehicle in details. The problem faced in the project is the closing system that will be used in the Mini-RUF, it was the task of the group to think and choose a mechanism in accordance to the limitations that were given. This part of the Mini-RUF is probably one of the most imported parts, because it has to be 120 percent safe, the closing time has to be less than 1 second and the whole system is allowed to a maximum weight of 100 Kg. In the beginning it was just a big search for a certain goal for our project. And after some focused brainstorm sessions our task got more clear and we were supposed to look more specific at the closing system. The brainstorming helped us to generate ideas and those ideas were then developed into a set of possible solutions. The most effective concept that we have made is using a “jack” technique. With this technique it’s possible to create high clamping forces with low torques. Finally, the group made a working Solid Works model with the materials, tolerances and strength analyses as well as an animation of the system how it works. During the project, we concluded that with more time, other parts of the project could have been better specified, decisions as the choice of the bearings and the material of our parts would have been made. The groups decision was to leave such parts so that we can focus us on redesigning a complete new closing system.
