This report was commissioned to find a solution of make a particular building more sustainable. The following document will show to the readers a study developed by Gonzalo Miguel Velilla Saenz and Pere Hernandez Escalona. This study aims to explore different possibilities in reference to an existing building and how to make it more sustainable. Through this document you can see in different steps how was made this study to solve the problem of make it more sustainable. These buildings were built in the early 1960’s and that is the reason because the owners are looking for a solution about saving energy and resources. A well designed building should save energy by itself. For these reasons, responsible for making this project want to give the advice to the owners of the building of different possibilities to save money with an initial investment. These students were recruited by Ramon Alberts (Projectmanager at Energie kennis centrum, EKC) on February to develop this project in collaboration with two Dutch students from the building department (Casper Zutt and Scott Hardenberg). In collaboration with these students we developed a study of feasibility using different options to get the main goal, make the buildings more sustainable for residents trying to save money. This project is possible due the collaboration between “KEMA” with “Hanze Hogeschool” and “Energie Kennis Centrum”. For the realization of this project, the exchange students who made this project will receive once it has been passed to 30 ECTS credits. Initially this project was requested by the neighborhood association. This organization represents six 12-storey buildings Situated in Amstelveen, 12.4 kilometers south of Amsterdam, Called the Meander Torens 1-6. How can the owners save money making an initial payment? To find a solution for this problem this project team has based his project planning I the book of David G. Ullman “The Mechanical Design Process”. The mechanical design process is a continuous constraining of the potential product designs until one final product evolves. This constraining of the design space is made through repeated comparison with the design requirements. As this process does not correspond with the requirement at all we adapted this process to our project combining with our experience from our backgrounds. That is the requirement of these students; the following document will show you what the main field goals were. The research draws attention to the solar panels, which could be used in different ways. From the findings of the research different analyses in scenarios and life cycles as well as in creative workshops ideas have been generated. Those are corresponding with the requirements for the project and were providing solutions for the problem. After creating project ideas and different possibilities on product features the project created a concept, with which give different possibilities to the customer to get the possibility to save money and energy with the solutions offered in this report.
