Abstract
The final task of this project is to improve a former application which main function is the simulation of production planning processes in industries, which at the same time is thought to the production optimisation in, for instance, an assembly line. We had to improve the older version of the game which could compare between three different methods of production, so each of the companies that used it could see which one is the best for the industry in which they work. This former application was developed by the Styer Campus of the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences, and had to be improve, as far as the old model was only made with Excel, which wasn’t the perfect way to make the program function, not even to make it a professional tool for the industry. So they needed a new version, an updated one, with a whole new web design (which didn’t exist yet) and a new Android application. Another fact which led to this project was the one concerning the transportability of all the material needed to run to game. We needed a lot of suitcases, machines, cables and boxes so that we could make it work. We can therefor sum up that the two cornerstones of this project were the following: Develop and design a brand new website and an Android application from scratch, so work on the whole programming and development of the software and server and, lately, work what the user would see, so all the aesthetic, the “how it works”, concerning the graphic design field. Method: The project was developed mainly from two different working fields: programming and graphic design. Thanks to the mixed knowledge from all the participants (three mechanical engineers, an IT security and an industrial designer) we could work hand by hand. We also contacted a professional in “user-friendly” design, so we could attain the best level 5 we could. Even if the overall skills of the group were not the perfect ones for the project, we finally manage to reach the goal we wanted to attain. Results: As far as the project was finished, we could say the work was done. After showing the final result to the Steyr University, we realized we made a good work, but we had to be self-critic too. Even if we had made all the work that had to be done, we could have improved way more the application and the web’s layout, so it could be more user-friendly and beautiful to see and use. But as the knowledge of the group was, in this field, way too short to what we had to know, we can be proud of the work done so far. Conclusions: At the end we were able to play the game with the most important planning production method and to compare different round with the analyses. The two others methods weren't implemented yet but all the requests between the website, the application and the server are already done and the database is ready to do it. We are proud we managed to reach the goals that were fixed at the beginning of the semester. Developing a completely responsive website and application wasn’t that easy, having in mind that the working fields of the team members were not the perfect ones to reach these aims.
