Abstract
The main aim of this project is to apply Human Centered Design techniques onto the development of a product, in this case a drumsticks display for music stores or music expositions, in order to create a product that can fit the needs of every user that will interact with it based on observation and real opinions. I am a drummer myself, so I asked myself what is one of the biggest problems we drummers have? The answer was clearly choosing the perfect pair of drumsticks. Drumsticks are a fundamental part of drumming, you could say that each style of music require a certain type of drumsticks, and a certain type of drummer require their certain type of drumstick, so the answer was clear, in order to choose the perfect drumsticks, a perfect display unit should be created. Another thing that was considered after deciding what product was going to be designed was the marketing aspect of designing a display. A display is one of the most important ways that a brand can catch the attention and influence customers to purchase their products, so a good display should be one that helps achieving that. An exhaustive research on many aspects was conducted, such as the state of the art analysing similar existing products, the ergonomics of the end users, the context where the product would be used or the products it would display, to end up with a list of requirements or Briefing that would serve as a guide for when the ideation process. With that, a brainstorming and a sketching process was able to be done with much more materials to work with, and after discarding many concepts, a final one was chosen and developed into the final product. The results of the project were more than satisfying, not only a user-friendly product has been designed, but by also combining many other aspects such as being modular, or by allowing the brand to take advantage of all its surfaces, that would make it efficient and in terms of marketing a very useful asset to count with in order to ensure new customers and sales.
