Abstract
The controlled low strength resistance material (CLSM) is a material of fluid consistency
which can be used to fill trenches, for structural fills and pavement base…Thanks to its
fluid consistency, it is self-compacting, self-leveling, can be placed easily and with no need
to be vibrated.
On the other hand, steel slag aggregate and fly ash are 2 industrial byproducts which are
quite easy to get. They are not expansive and have very little impact on the environment.
For these reasons, the objective of our research is to find optimal dosages for CLSM made
with steel slag aggregate and fly ash and to study the possible effects of these 2 materials
on the properties of CLSM.
The manufacturing process of the MBRC consists of 3 stages and in each stage 3 or 4
samples are made. One of them contains 100% natural aggregate; the rest contains
respectively, 20%, 50% and 100% of steel slag aggregate. Stage 1 was based on the
literature and defined dosages whose compressive strengths are between 2.1MPa and
8.3MPa, which means they can be used on structures. In stage 2, it started with the
dosages of the stage 1, and 3 more mixtures were found and they are even more resistant
than those of the stage 1 and can also be used for structural fillings. Finally, in stage 3 it
started with those dosages of the 2 previous stages, and 3 more dosages were found
whose compressive strengths are between 0.7MPa and 2.1MPa, that means they can be
excavated. In each stage, after obtaining the possible dosages, they were tested to
determine both the fresh properties and hardened properties of those new mixtures. And
it is also carefully researched; the effects of steel slag aggregate and fly ash to the
mixtures of CLSM.
