Cálculo de estructuras reticulares. Carlos Fernández Casado

Abstract

There are written works held in such esteem that they are purely referred to by the name of the author. This is the case of the Arguelles, the Jiménez Montoya, the Salinger and, evidently, the Fernández Casado. In this latter case we are referring to the book by Carlos Fernández Casado titled “Cálculo de Estructuras Reticulares” (Calculation of Reticular Structures), which has been used to teach an inordinate number of graduates at different University Colleges and has served as a reference book for a similarly high number of professionals in the world of construction and structures. The importance of this book is such that it came out in eight editions from 1934 to 1967. The universality, simplicity and precision sought by Fernández Casado is made evident by the modifications and additions made to the text in accordance with the requirements of the time. The author of this article modestly hopes to revive the memory (or perhaps demonstrate for the first time to new generations) of a book which was of great importance for structural calculation over much of the 20th century, and to render well-deserved homage to such a prodigious author, Carlos Fernández Casado.
