Influence of grain refinement method on mechanical behavior and texture of TWIP steels

Austenitic high-Mn (15%-30%) steels showing twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) provide great potential in applications for structural components in the automotive industry, owing to their excellent tensile strength-ductility combination. Recent years, different aspects of research on TWIP steel have received great attention. Some reviews focused on the general information of TWIP steels, rather than the influence of grain refinement method. In present paper, the mechanical properties enhanced and texture evolution during cold rolling and severe plastic deformation (SPD) has been reviewed. Based on previous study, through CR or SPD procedure, the average grain size can be severely reduced, and the yield strength as well as the ultimate tensile strength are enhanced sharply. These phenomena can be attributed to twinning evolution during deformation. On the other hand, after CR procedure, Goss and Brass texture are gradually formed. © 2016, Editorial Office of Transactions of Materials and Heat Treatment.
