The residential urban fragment has been in the last thirty years a planning instrument used for the extension of the Spanish medium-sized cities, which has had a great impact on the change of scale of it, in the rebalancing of the existing city and in generating a new urban image. Trough the analysis of these projects from a significant sample of case, can recognize a way to make, characterize the project, and identify some of the challenges and formulate alternatives. This new way of doing define a new form of growth, based on a project with high level of urban quality and a recognizable image, but that presents significant challenges. A way of doing that should be reviewed to achieve a more efficient city for its users.
