Resumen
Architecture must have hybrid potential. The present historical moment accentuates the need for recovering the traditional capacity of buildings to evolve naturally.
This article presents the restoration of the Chapel of Sant Martí de Solamar in Bianya Valley as an addition process of times and types, ancient and modern, instead of a functionally closed residential unit. Building expansions based on volume additions was common in rural and traditional constructions. The development of each new piece used the technology available at every specific moment. Due to the new values accumulated through the history of the place, this restoration project appears as a global restitution of the historical context and an adaptation to the needs of present times.
