Abstract
This work is related to the ongoing survey for the PHD program of Architecture, Environment and design, PhD
Curriculum in Knowledge and Design of Urban Landscape, at the School of Advanced Studies of the University
of Camerino, concerning the transformation of tourist resorts built in the 1960s and 1970s along the Italian
coasts of the Marche region.
The present article deals with the problems involved in the reorganization of consolidated tourist destinations in
consideration of the evolution of the areas dedicated to tourism and the intensification of international mobility
as an analytic and theoretical reference for the interpretation of renovation necessities in respect to the observed
contemporary dynamics.
It further analyzes the recent transformations of the Italian Adriatic coast of the Marche region and finally
discusses the role of the urban-tourist areas which are ready to promote reorganization strategies within a new
urban geographical framework.
