dc.description.abstractThe following report is based on the project made by EPS semester group five. The decisions and problems faced are derived from the Maxi-RUF project. The Maxi RUF is a concept of public transportation for use in and between urban conurbations. The first part of the report will contain information discussing the Maxi-RUF concept in more detail. The problem faced in the project is the entry system currently used in the RUF, it was the task the group to alter and justify the chosen mechanism in accordance to the limitations given. This does not just involve the working mechanism of the door, but the users as well. It is important that the system be user friendly for everyone. Users must be able to access the Maxi-RUF safely, quick and with a positive attitude towards the system. The group initiated the project with a mind map of the problem as a whole. A more focussed brainstorm was then undertaken, specifically looking at the door system. Idea generation followed and those ideas were then developed into a set of possible solutions. The most effective concept was chosen by using a ‘Kesselring’ weight and rate technique. This process was repeated when the group chose a working mechanism for development into the final solution. Finally, the group made a working CAD model with the materials, tolerances and strength analyses as well as an animation of the system working.
