dc.descriptionInspection systems for quality control in metal lines or trim lines for the automotive industry are currently transitioning from mechanical/contact based Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to 3D Scanners. Image processing technologies are then needed for the analysis and processing of the resulting 3D point clouds. One of the tasks is to align the data captured by the scanners on the actual object with the original design blueprints (CAD data). Reference Positioning Systems (RPS) provide reference points in the CAD to align the volumes on its own coordinate system. On
