Abstract
This work represents an effort to achieve a greater understanding of the bolt thread rolling process,
which could be used in future work for the optimization of the properties of the produced bolt and of
the tool’s lifetime.
Through different sensor systems, important parameters involved in the forming process have been
monitored, such as feed rate, rolling force and angle of the tool.
It has been proven as well the effects caused by physical parameters related to the bolt, including
diameter, steel strength, thread pitch and length.
Different criteria have been used in order to compare the results obtained.
Finally, the failure response has been analyzed in order to ensure that the defective bolts can be
detected.
