Racing boats are always evolving and so their governing rules. As a fairly new rating system, the High Performance Rule (HPR) is designed to allocate all those new light and powerful racing boats. The rule has been written in the USA and it is still expected to make the leap overseas. A potential scenario where a race is held under this rule is considered, so a HPRcomplying boat is designed for a hypothetical Cowes Week race, one of the most iconic races around the UK. The design has combined the well-established naval architecture principles and a modern approach, which has been attempted in some areas such as mast and keel. As per personal interest of the author, special attention is paid to deck hardware and deck layout. A final design proposal is achieved fulfilling the design brief stated and the governing regulations.
