Abstract
In this project, possible applications and uses that may have temporary
structures in the aviation world is analysed. Specifically, this work is focused
on the study of an inflatable hangar commercialized by Buildair.
This is a completely new type of infrastructure in the sector which can add
value to the existing airport infrastructure.
First, we did a study of the current business environment in as well as a
study of the legislative framework covering such kind of structures.
The main objective of the project is to study the technical and environmental
characteristics of an inflatable hangar and to describe the utility that could
have for future applications. To make this, the analysis is based on a real
case and with the collaboration of the manufacturing company (Buildair). To
this end, a comparison between the characteristics of inflatable hangar to
those for a traditional one is presented, highlighting the features that play in
favour of temporary structures.
The other objective of the study is to analyse the potential impact of the
application of these inflatable hangars, comparing to the uses for traditional
ones nowadays. This document describes how these hangars bring new
solutions to the airport operator, by offering, much more flexibility and the
ability to respond to emergency situations in a much shorter time without
compromising the security at any time.
